I don’t know about you but I’ve kinda had it with winter this year — I am ready to move on to a change of the seasons! In an effort to boost those sunny thoughts, I pulled down some of our classic Spring-themed books this week!!

12 Beautiful Spring Books for Kids
Many of the books on our list today were chosen for their amazing illustrations — colorful, comical and creative! You’ll find picture books that are perfect read alouds for toddlers, preschoolers and big kids too!
We chose stories that have springtime themes: seasonal changes in nature, weather, baby animals, gardening and more fun things to do in Spring! Each book includes a link to a favorite hands-on activity that kids can do along with affiliate links so you can learn more about each of our selections.
Stories about Seasonal Spring Changes
Explore Spring!: 25 Great Ways to Learn About Spring by Maxine Anderson is tons of fun! The book is a combination of hands-on activities, science exploration, riddles and great illustrations. Topics include tree growth, bird migration, seeds, air, water and weather. For kids ages 6 and up.

Going on a Bug Hunt {w/free printable!}
Spring: An Alphabet Acrostic is one of the books from my favorite series about the seasons. The pictures are very engaging, with each letter of the alphabet introducing something that we love about Spring — hopscotch, kity flying, baby birds, to name a few. For older kids, it’s a great way to introduce them to a unique type of poetry. For kids ages 4 – 10.

The Twelve Days of Springtime: A School Counting Book by Deborah Lee Rose is a funny look at what happens when you take a class of children outside to enjoy a Spring day. The book is written to the tune of “The 12 Days of Christmas” thus kids will enjoy repeating each of the humorous encounters throughout the book. A laugh-out-loud read for all! For kids ages 3 – 8.

Fletcher and the Springtime Blossoms by Julia Rawlinson is a fox who knows just how I feel — just when he begins to see butterflies and flowers blooming, snow starts to fall! Oh no! A great story about the beauty and changes that happen in Spring — wonderful illustrations! For kids ages 2 – 7 years.
My Spring Robin by Anne Rockwell tells the story of a girl who goes out on the first day of Spring in search of a robin to tell her that Spring has come. Along the way, she finds many other signs of spring. A simple but classic story! For kids ages 3 – 7.

Kids Books about Spring Weather
There’s one constant in Spring – the weather seems to change daily! Try this great weather related stories this season.
Franklin and the Thunderstorm by Paulette Bourgeois is a wonderful book for any child who is afraid of thunderstorms. Each of Franklin’s friends tries to explain why thunder and lightning occur in hopes of making Franklin feel less afraid. Kids will love knowing that there are others who share the same fear. For kids ages 3 – 8.

Feel the Wind (Let’s-Read-and-Find-Out Science 2) by Authur Dorros – Help to answer some of your child’s questions such as “how fast does the wind blow?” and “what is the wind made of?” with this book which includes easy explanations. Kids can also learn to make a weather vane.
This book is from one of our favorite series of ‘Let’s Read and Find out Science’ which is an AWESOME way to introduce science concepts to young children. For kids ages 5 – 10.
Who Likes Rain? by Wong Herbert Yee is a beautiful story about a young girl who goes out on a rainy day to explore ‘who likes the rain’ — dogs? worms? fish? Simple question and answer text makes it a fun and educational read. For kids ages 2 – 7.
Books about Gardening in Spring
Oh Say Can You Seed?: All About Flowering Plants by Bonnie Worth is part of the non-fiction Cat in the Hat Learning Library. Follow along with Thing 1 and Thing 2 as they explore plants, seeds, flowers, photosynthesis and pollination. Even adults may learn a thing or two from this fact-packed read! For kids ages 5 and up.

Zinnia’s Flower Garden by Monica Wellington – Now that Spring is here, Zinnia can’t wait to plant her garden. Readers follow her through the process of getting her garden ready, planting seeds and watching them sprout! For kids ages 3 – 8.

Spring Stories about Baby Animals
Who’s Awake in Springtime? by Phillis Gershator is a fun look at who is still awake at the end of a long spring day. Kids will revel in the young animals who, like them, aren’t likely to be tired enough to go to bed. Parents too will enjoy this colorful read! For kids ages 2 – 6.
Animal Babies by Harry McNaught – Who doesn’t love a book about baby animals?! Wonderful pictures show children about the offspring of both wild animals and those you might see in your own backyard. Kids will also learn the names of baby animals (for example, ‘a baby rabbit is called a kit’) and some fun facts about them. For kids ages 3 – 9.
