Amazing Ideas for Creative Backyard Play this Summer

Try these backyard games & activities for awesome summer fun this year!

We love spending time outdoors during the summer.

Well, I LOVE to be outside no matter what!  Our kids really enjoy it as long as there’s something fun to do.

During our Discover & Explore Backyard Games linky, we had some absolutely AWESOME ideas shared for how to make your backyard a creative fun zone this summer!

6 Ideas for Creative Backyard Play

It really doesn’t take much to turn a backyard into a super play area!

Just think about what your family loves to do together — whether it’s play games, get creative or have a friendly competition, we’ve got some inspiration for you this summer.

Kudos to Full Hands, Full Hearts for the great tutorial (and fun post) on how to create your own Backyard Jenga game!  I love that this is a family-friendly activity no matter what your age.

And it’s very easy to make — if you don’t have your own saw, check at the hardware store to see if they will cut the lumber for you (many will for a small fee).

backyard-obstacle-course

Train Up a Child put together a great Backyard Obstacle Course using pool noodles!

They have lots of fun ideas for active challenges that the kids can complete – a wonderful way to get some outdoor time and keep them entertained.  I think it would be great on those hot summer days if you added in a sprinkler as one of the obstacles too 🙂

backyard-painting

If your kids enjoy painting, try this fun & creative version from Blog Me MomThrow Ball Painting

It’s really easy to set up and the kids not only have fun creating but will also get a great work-out from tossing all those balls in just the right spot.  Love the idea of taking traditionally indoor activities outside!

I had a difficult time deciding which great backyard post to share from Connecting Family and Seoul – they have some wonderful ideas for outdoor play!

Here’s a great game for younger kids that they created called Find A Fish — it’s a fun way to turn your backyard into a scavenger hunt for the kids!  And if you have older kids, they’ll love it too (just make finding the fish a little harder 😉

backyard-science

You can also get creative & mix in some science but setting up an Outdoor Potions area for the kids

Mama Papa Bubba pulled together some everyday ingredients (along with fun goggles – because that’s huge in the kid science realm) and voila! Instant science station for creative exploration!

backyard-math-game

And if you’re looking to sneak in a little learning, how about this creative outdoor math game from The Measured Mom.  Print off the free cards and head out to your backyard to have the kids learn a little while they seek out items that match the card challenges.

Thanks to everyone who shared this past week – we had a great time reading all the posts!
