I learned a long time ago that the memories our kids have of the holidays are not those picture perfect ideals that you see in magazines and movies.

In fact, some of their fondest memories of Christmases past are ones that I may not want them to remember – but for them, it’s what made the holiday special or different or just plain enjoyable.

Wouldn’t it be great if the kids were able to do more for themselves during the holidays?!

I know, most parents think it would be great if the kids could do more for themselves all the time but I think it’s extra nice if it happens during the busiest time of the year.

So we rounded up a few ideas about how to help the kids be more independent from some wonderful activities shared at the Discover & Explore Life Skills linky last week.

Welcome to our March Online Book Club for Kids!

This month, we explore the wonderfully imaginative books of Julia Donaldson.

Each month, our group of 40+ book-loving bloggers chooses an author and highlights some fun projects, crafts and activities that match up with their books.  The book club is a great way to find fun extension activities that will get the kids more excited about reading and books!

I’m thrilled to be co-hosting a blog hop with a dozen other bloggers who are all sharing some wonderful ways to help others this holiday season.

We’re sharing ideas for everyone — young or old, individual or family, those who want to help kids or animals — to make this a true ‘season of giving’ in Kansas City!

Each of us has chosen to feature a charity of two and highlight how people can get involved — we are sharing more about how families can help other kids in Kansas City by working with the Salvation Army and Children’s Mercy.

The holidays are a great time to introduce kids to the idea of giving.  It’s important that kids of all ages understand that no matter what your age or income status, EVERYONE can help give to others and help their community.
