Getting into a School Day Routine

Do you know what my most favorite part of summer is — no routines!  I really love that we don’t have to stick to a schedule and can just operate day-by-day.

But once school begins, our house really needs that regular daily schedule to keep away the chaos. And I’ll be honest, the routine looks different each year.  As the kids grow, you’ll find what works best for your family and schedule.

Back to School Routines

During our Discover & Explore Back to School linky, we had some wonderful posts linked up to help us all with the back to school routines.

And don’t forget to get your free printable Ultimate Back to School checklist to help you track all those little things that need to get done before school begins too.

Try these ideas for getting back into the school day routine:

In our house, getting out the door in the morning can be slightly chaotic.  I love some of the suggestions from Rusty & Rosy Reading for School Morning Makeovers.  These ideas will make getting out the door a lot smoother!

Get organized with a weekly Breakfast Planner

I’ve also learned that using a weekly Breakfast Planner (print yours free!) has helped to make mornings run so much smoother too!

Lunchbox notes

We love to put something fun in the lunchboxes when the kids bring lunch to school.  It helps to encourage them to do some reading and also reminds them that we’re thinking of them during the day.  Try these cute & easy napkin notes from Green Owl Art or the fun printable lunchbox cards from Amusing to Ashley.

Reading Homework Tips

One thing you can count on no matter the age of your child — reading homework!!  And it’s so important to get into a good routine to make sure the kids practice a little each day.  Growing Book by Book has some excellent ideas for how to make time for reading and keep track of all those reading logs!

Back to School Schedules

And one great way to get the year off to a good start is to set some family goals.  The Good Long Road has some wonderful suggestions for personal and family goals to consider during the school year.
