Discover & Explore Linky

What a fun week!  So many great pumpkin ideas and activities were shared on the Discover & Explore linky — it was really hard to choose which to feature.

So I thought I would share a little bit of everything pumpkin — crafts, activities, art, learning and a great recipe too!

Sometimes science and math can seem to be foreign concepts to our kids. 

It’s so important to give them hands-on opportunities to learn these subjects.  And why not also get them some time outdoors too as you explore the concepts too!

  We really enjoy using natural items to create and craft, especially in the fall.  And of course, if you’re using items from nature for a project, you should really hang out outdoors to DO the project! All I can think of while I write this post is “Old McDonald had a farm, e-i-e-i-o” — funny how music always creeps in on you and gets stuck in your head 🙂

Last week’s Discover & Explore Fun on the Farm linky turned up some really fun crafts that can be paired with great kids books for some ‘hi-ho the dairy-o’ fun (sorry, just couldn’t resist).

We had so many fun ideas for learning letters and numbers at the Discover & Explore ABCs & 123s linky last week! 

Learning letters and numbers is a long process for kids and one that requires us to introduce a variety of activities to keep them engaged.

This week’s linky will Discover & Explore Boats, Water Fun & Things that Float!

Kids can explore a number of science and engineering ideas by trying to build their own boat and playing around with the concept of sink and float. 

How heavy is an item before it sinks?  And what type of materials can be used to make a boat that floats?

There was such a wonderful variety of activities and ideas shared that I thought I would put together a planning kit for your own Under the Sea Party!

I love today’s theme for the Discover & Explore linky!  Ok, I really love all of our themes but this one is really fun because we get to talk about Vacations!

I adore vacations — heading out to explore a new place, relax and reconnect with the family. 

I had two amazing parents who would take us on vacation every year and we’ve continued this tradition with our kids.  We make travel a priority so we save year round for our trips and take advantage of every minute we have on our trips.  Traveling is such a great experience!  It allows you to discover new things (foods, animals, etc) explore different cultures & areas and also learn more about yourself.

I can’t wait to see what everyone shares in the linky this week!  I’d love to see great places that your family has visited, fun vacation memories or wonderful tips & ideas that make the trip special.  I thought I would start off by sharing a few places that we’ve enjoyed on past trips.

We know it’s coming — the heat of summer is creeping in and soon we will all be seeking out the comforts of shade and air-conditioning.  For the kids, they would much rather run under a sprinkler or enjoy some ‘cool’ water play!

One of the most popular attractions for families is the zoo.  I’m not sure if it’s all the curiosity that we have about animal behavior or the fact that most of our kids act like animals so we think they’ll feel at home during their visit 😉

And June is National Zoo Month!  Our last Discover & Explore linky theme was Zoos & Wild Animals and we had some great reviews of family friendly zoos that were shared.
