It’s always fun to pull out some simple craft activities & family ideas during the holidays! Nothing complicated — just something the kids enjoy creating and that usually involves something sparkly 🙂 And kids adore making ornaments to hang on the tree! I think we have more handmade ornaments on our tree that we do …
Encourage Creativity
I’ve learned a few things over the years when it comes to getting kids to talk & share — First, a good snack goes a long way 😉 And second, kids are more likely to open up when they are preoccupied in an activity WITH an adult. If you’re doing something (like prepping dinner or …
This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias and its advertiser. All opinions & design ideas are mine alone. #TrickOrSweet #CollectiveBias Every Halloween, we run into the same dilemma — who will hand out the candy at our house?! It all started the first Halloween BOTH the kids were old enough to trick or …
Seasonal art projects for kids that highlight the life cycle of a tree. Fall is starting this week (yea!) so we wanted to celebrate with a fun seasonal activity! When the seasons change, it’s a wonderful time to introduce kids to the science behind nature. For example, leaf rubbings are a great way to explore …
This week’s Discover and Explore linky is Art & Museum Fun!
I’m a huge fan of taking kids to visit art museums. Yes! They will have a good time — and NO! They will not ruin the artwork. I have taken my kids to art museums dozens of times and (other than a few slightly embarassing questions) we have never had any mishaps. Your 4-year old may ask why all the statues are naked, but that’s part of the learning that goes along with viewing artwork 🙂 And museums offer our kids a wonderful look into the creative minds and thoughts of others!
There are many types of art museums that you can visit – some have ancient art galleries (think mummies and greek sculpture), others have modern art pieces (which can lead to really great discussions with kids), and almost all museums will have paintings, drawings and photography. One of the things I love about an art museum visit is that it will appeal to kids of all ages, from toddlers to teens!
Try this creative idea f One summer, our kids decided they wanted to start their own club. A secret club. “One that only has kids allowed Mom — you can’t come in, okay?“ It’s one of those times as a parent when you’re excited for the creativity and independence but also a little skeptical about …
Creative activities for kids who have to fidget, move and stay active! Our kids could never sit still during reading time. They would ask to build block towers, do headstands on the couch so they could see the book upside down or color while we read aloud. Even as they got older, there would always …
Even though we only get the newspaper once a week, we always seem to have a pile of it lying around the house or tossed in the recycle bin. In fact, that was my inspiration for our DIY Eiffel Tower project! Why go out and spend money on building materials when you have some great …
Paint a t-shirt using heat from the sun — an awesome craft for teens & kids this summer! You know when you find those inspirational points where two seemingly unrelated things collide? Like frozen hot chocolate?! You think “Man, I’m not sure how that came together but it just works!” That’s what we have for …
The Easter Bunny has visited our house for more than 14 years, each time hiding a bunch of (plastic) eggs. I hate throwing things out — so with more than 100 of these crazy things in the house, I really needed to find some good ways to put them to use. Here are some fun & practical ways to recycle plastic eggs.
