If you’ve ever wondered how to make those gorgeous leaf prints using colorful fall leaves, I can tell you — they’re easy enough for the kids to do! Seems like we’ve had a good dose of chaos at our house this month — the kids had 5 days off from school for Fall break, my …

Welcome to our second year of the School’s Out: Top 10 Summer Learning series!
I’m joining 35 wonderful kid bloggers this week to provide TONS of ideas & activities for summer learning and fun.
We know that summer should be a time for kids to kick-back and be kids — but it’s also a great opportunity to let the kids explore interests that they may not have the chance to learn about during the school year.
This week’s theme for the Discover & Explore linky is Flowers!
I love to mix in nature items when we create art projects. There’s something about the contrasting textures that I think look so cool when the picture is complete. And when flowers are included in the project, there is also some wonderful sensory and science learning that happens too!
If you’ve been around these parts, you’ll know that we have a fondness for nature activities 😉 Most rooms in our house host some type of nature collection — shells, rocks, tree seeds, leaves in the Fall, etc. And many of these were started on the fly — a trip to the beach, a vacation …
We headed out this weekend for a few hours to fly a kite – a spur of the moment idea to enjoy some outdoor time on a windy day.
Have you ever gone kite flying with the kids?

Then there’s getting the yard and house cleaned up after winter — turning over the garden, putting away winter clothes, cleaning out the garage so we can FIND the spring toys — all that spring cleaning.
We always love to find easy science experiments that we can do at home! And when I mean easy, I’m talking the quick set-up with very few items type of science 🙂 Those types of experiments seem to be plentiful when you’re studying botany/nature (like our How does a Leaf Breathe? experiment) or physics (see …
We’re starting a new monthly series on the blog today — A Year of Simple Science Experiments! Each month, we’ll feature some fun science projects that can easily be done at home or in the classroom. These hands-on activities will give kids an opportunity to learn about various science concepts and practice their skills in …
Today we are exploring the ends of the Earth (literally!) If you enjoyed penguin books & resources, you’ll LOVE this list of books that feature all types of polar animals! Most of us will never have the opportunity to visit the North or South poles. The media frequently shares numerous stories about how changes in …
Welcome to the Poppins Book Nook – a monthly online book club for kids from preschool to high school!
The theme for this month’s Poppins Book Club is wizards!
Whether it’s Merlin, Dumbledore or Morgan LeFay, there are some much loved wizards in children’s literature.
