One of the holiday traditions that we look forward to the most in our family is having an Advent Calendar. I remember having one as a child — putting candy canes into the slots each day as we counted down to Christmas Eve. And now we do one with our kids too. Our countdown changes …
Spending Time with Kids
We played outside all the time when I was a kid! Seriously, those had-to-be-called-in-to-eat type of days. Even on school days, I remember walking home with friends and talking about what we’d do that afternoon before dinner. Just like this Come Out and Play! video (definitely brings me back to childhood) — …
This is one of those week’s when sentiment has crept in and taken over. The first week in April is the anniversary of the passing of two of my grandparents so I always find myself thinking more about them and family at this time of the year. And it just so happens that I’ve been …
Welcome to our second year of the School’s Out: Top 10 Summer Learning series!
I’m joining 35 wonderful kid bloggers this week to provide TONS of ideas & activities for summer learning and fun.
We know that summer should be a time for kids to kick-back and be kids — but it’s also a great opportunity to let the kids explore interests that they may not have the chance to learn about during the school year.
I’m not going to lie to you — I don’t do tents! Sorry, there’s just something about a thin piece of material and the possibility of bears or snakes in the area that kinda freaks me out! But family camping doesn’t always mean tents. We’ve had some great vacations while ‘roughing it’ in a cabin. …
In our house, summer comes in two phases:
Phase 1: The Honeymoon
A time when we all (parents & kids) are excited about no schedules, no school and long days together. We have a hand-ful of activities planned and a great summer bucket list of things we can’t wait to do — life is looking good!
We are a big hiking family – love to explore the forest on foot.
And we’ve been treated to some great encounters during out hikes — moose in Colorado, wildlife in South Dakota and even some out-of-the-ordinary highlights close to home (such as the wild turkey that crossed our path a few weeks ago!).
So we’re excited that our weekly linky will Discover & Explore Forest Fun today!
Getting the kids more time outside is always a goal these days. Especially on school days when they’re stuck in a building for 8 hours 🙁 with the exception of a 25 minute recess (if you’re in elementary school) which I think is waaayyy too short. But I’ll complain about that on another day 😉 …
When do you do storytime at your house? I know most families (ours included!) choose to read right before naptime or bedtime. The kids are winding down and it’s a great opportunity to snuggle up with a story. That’s usually when we do most of our reading. BUT — at one time in our house, …
We headed out this weekend for a few hours to fly a kite – a spur of the moment idea to enjoy some outdoor time on a windy day.
Have you ever gone kite flying with the kids?
