I’m a huge fan of kids lit! I know, no surprise there if you’ve read even a few of my posts. But even more, I’m a big lover of classic, vintage kids books — the really great stories that we all heard as kids or may have even been read by our parents & grandparents in their childhood.
Summer Reading
One of the most popular activities that I’ve seen on many summer bucket lists is a visit to the zoo! We can’t wait to head out to spend some time with our local polar bears, giraffes and monkeys this year.
For even more fun, we love to read a book before we head out to see our animal friends. Or better yet, take a book with you on your next zoo visit!
Here’s a few of our favorite zoo reads for animal fun this summer —
I know that so many of us live in the world of text messages and emails but let’s face it, young kids LOVE snail mail!
While we get bills, unwanted advertisements and the occasional good news, kids always receive fun things in the mail — letters from Grandma, birthday wishes from family, the toy catalog sent during the holidays 🙂
My kids have always looked forward to “getting the mail”.
Do you read books from your childhood to your kids?
I think sharing vintage books with kids is an important way to build their love of reading and also share fond memories of how parents and grandparents grew up.
I’ve curated a number of book lists sharing classic books for kids over the past year and wanted to bring them all together in one post for easy reference.
We’re having some fun with maps this summer! I love using maps as a learning tool with the kids. Maps help teach geography, directions, reading skills and so much more. Previously, I shared Why Every Home Needs a Map – 7 Fun Ways to Introduce Kids to Geography. Today I want to expand on one …
We had some amazing posts linked up to our Discover & Explore ‘Gardening with Kids‘ linky. Be sure to stop by Fantastic Fun & Learning to see some of the cool science-related garden ideas that are being featured today.
With the National Summer Library Book theme being ‘Dig into Reading’, I wanted to feature some of the great posts that would pair nicely with garden books for your summer reading list.
“I participated in an Influencer Activation Program on behalf of Mom Central Consulting (#MC) for Kohl’s. I received a promotional item to facilitate my review.
This week, I’ve been working with Kohl’s on their #DestinationSummer project because summer is just an awesome time to get out and do fun things with the kids!
We have one more special summer item to share and it’s about one of my favorite places on Earth — the second Disney Planes movie is coming out this summer!
Each summer, our kids look forward to seeing fireworks on July 4th. We have a great spot where we are able to view firework displays for 3 locations and my daughter’s favorite part is sitting on the top of the car to see them. July 4th is a great time to talk with kids about …
I’m a list-making kind of girl. Pen and paper for me (my tech-saavy teen thinks I’m so old school!)
And every January, I have a penchant for making booklists!
We love reading at our house and are always visiting the library, looking for new books to devour. So I’ve found that having a list really helps. I have a list for myself and also encourage the kids to add to it so I know what books they’re dying to read.
We were involved in a wonderful book exchange program this summer that was coordinated by my friend Kim from The Educator’s Spin on It.
The Summer Book Exchange included 30 bloggers who each chose a great book for summer reading, created some fun activities & crafts to go along with the story and packed it all up in a box to exchange with a ‘surprise’ partner.
